Amritsar, July 21
Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla in a tweet on Thursday alleged that AAP supporters and workers in some areas were pressuring principals and head teachers in government schools to appoint them as chairpersons of the school management committees (SMCs).
The allegations come as the District Education Office is under the process of receiving nominations for the school management committees for all schools in the district. The process of choosing members of school management committees is defined by the Directorate, Education Department, Punjab, and SMCs are responsible for overseeing developmental and learning work plans for each school at the district level.
Tagging Education Minister Harjot Bains and CM Bhagwant Mann, MP Aujla tweeted, “@BhagwantMann It has been noticed that some of AAP supporters & workers are torturing principals and head teachers of government schools to appoint them chairpersons of the SMCs. Most astonishing fact is that they are not at all eligible for these. I request @CMOPb and @harjotbains to control the misguided ambitions of MLAs pressuring principals and head teachers to defy guidelines. Novices need to learn that there is something known by the name of constitution and guidelines.”
The District Education Office spokesperson said they had not received any official complaint in this regard. “The process of filing nominations and approval for SMC members is carried out keeping in mind defined regulations by the Directorate Education Department. The approvals will be done by July 26, 2022, by the District Education Officer after thorough scrutiny,” said the spokesperson.
