In the wake of heightened tension following the recent Pahalgam incident and the Indian Army’s subsequent Operation Sindoor, prominent leaders in Amritsar have stepped forward to reassure the public, calling for calm, cooperation with authorities, and solidarity with the armed forces.

Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla on Thursday visited several areas in the city to interact with residents and boost their morale. Beginning the day from Novelty Chowk and Gyani Tea Stall, Aujla emphasized the need for patience and restraint during this sensitive time. “Pahalgam was a tragic incident that demanded a strong response and now that the situation has escalated, people must remain calm and support the administration,” he said.

“The Army and the administration are working tirelessly to ensure public safety. It is vital that we allow them to perform their duties without disruption and avoid spreading panic or misinformation.” Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Member of Parliament

Aujla also visited the border villages of Jethuwal and Makhanwindi where loud explosive sounds were heard on late Wednesday night. He informed residents that the Indian Army is actively investigating and addressing the matter. “The Army and the administration are working tirelessly to ensure public safety. It is vital that we allow them to perform their duties without disruption and avoid spreading panic or misinformation,” he stated.

Later, the MP toured the Majitha mandi to meet with wholesale traders. He urged them to refrain from hoarding and black marketing during this hour of crisis and instead ensure a steady and fair supply of essential commodities. “I commend those traders who are acting responsibly and maintaining fair price despite uncertainty. Their role is crucial in maintaining social stability,” Aujla said.

He appealed to the citizens to stay united, avoid rumor-mongering, and strictly follow official advisories. “We stand with you, and I personally assure every citizen that I am here for them,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Bassi, former Chairman of the Improvement Trust and a senior local leader, extended a strong message of solidarity, particularly to the underprivileged. Speaking to residents of the East constituency, Bassi promised that everyone would be taken care of during this difficult times. “If needed, I will personally ensure doorstep delivery of ration and food supplies to daily wage workers and struggling families,” he said.

Praising Operation Sindoor as a fitting response to the Pahalgam attack, Bassi declared his full support for the Indian Army. “This is the time to stand firmly with our forces. While many are stockpiling goods, we must also remember those who live hand to mouth. I will not let them suffer,” he asserted.

Bassi also cautioned against panic buying and hoarding, which could lead to black marketing. “Let us stay disciplined. This is not the time for selfishness but for compassion and collective strength,” he urged.
