Baisakhi spirit comes alive in Amritsar schools

Baisakhi festival was celebrated at a number of educational institutions in the area with great enthusiasm and with traditional fervour.

Bhavans SL celebrates Baisakhi

Bhavan SL Public School ushered a special assembly on Baisakhi and Dr BR Ambedkar Jayanti. A cultural programme was presented by the students of Grade 6th to lighten up the knowledge of all being present there regarding the harvesting festival of Punjab. They also gave the details about the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The information about the foundation of Khalsa Panth and ‘Panjh Pyare’ was also given to the students. A special “Giddha” was performed by girls. The Principal addressed the children explaining them the importance of living in peace and harmony with each other. She also explained them the importance of this festival in Punjab and the contribution of Dr Ambedkar towards our nation.

DAV Public School

DAV Public School, Lawrence Road, held a special assembly to mark Mahavir Jayanti, Pakhand Khandani Pataka Diwas, Baisakhi and Ambedkar Jayanti. Students accentuated the importance of Baisakhi and children dressed in colourful traditional dresses added to the gaiety of the atmosphere. Excerpts from the life of Dr BR Ambedkar were read out and students felt highly inspired by the life of the architect of the Indian Constitution. Students were also informed about the importance of Pakhand Khandani Pataka Diwas and how Swami Dayanand Saraswati single-handedly tried to elevate the society from the darkness of rigidity. Students also imbibed the teachings of Lord Mahavira.

Spring Blossoms School

Baisakhi celebrations were held in Spring Blossoms School as students dressed in colourful traditional Punjabi attires enjoyed the ‘Baisakhi Mela Scene’ that was put up at school premises. Various stalls, vendors like bangle seller, sharbat seller, balloon seller, a charkha, earthen pots etc symbolising Baisakhi were arranged. Dhol beats and Punjabi folk music added to the children’s excitement. To mark the authenticity of the occasion, children shared puri, channa and halwa that they had brought in their lunch boxes. Principal Anupama Mehra said Baisakhi marks the advent of harvest season, bringing happiness and prosperity to all.

Senior Study II

Senior Study II hosted Baisakhi special programme at school premises for students. Cultural events including music and dance were held as students celebrated the festival of harvest. Vijay Mehra, director, Senior Study II and Principal Upasna Mehra wished everyone health and prosperity.
