Three persons, including the PA of Batala Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amansher Singh Sherry Kalsi, died in a car mishap late yesterday night on the Batala-Amritsar bypass.

The tyre of the car, which was travelling at a high speed, burst following which the driver lost control and rammed it into a road divider.

The deceased have been identified as Updesh Kumar, the MLA’s PA, Gurleen Singh and Sunil Sodhi.

Kalsi’s brother Amritpal Singh Kalsi and his friend Manik Mehta were seriously injured. They were referred to a private hospital in Amritsar where their condition is said to be stable.

The occupants were returning home from Amritsar after attending a birthday party. Police sources said all three died on the spot.

DSP (City) Lalit Kumar and his team of officials reached the spot. The police took all the five to the Civil Hospital, where three of them were declared brought dead.

One of the deceased, Gurleen Singh, was a resident of New Delhi and had come to Batala to attend the birthday celebrations. His body was taken to Delhi after Civil Hospital doctors conducted the postmortem.
