Battered roads around railway station give commuters a tough time
Most of the roads around the Amritsar railway station are in a poor condition with a large number of potholes dotting them. There have been many accidents on the battered roads, causing inconvenience to commuters.
The most affected areas include the entry and exit points of the railway station, Railway Link Road, Railway Road, Queens Road, Ashoka Chowk to Court Road. Potholes on these roads put a hurdle in the smooth movement of vehicular traffic.
Naveen Kalia, a resident of Chheharta, stated, “It has become extremely difficult for people to walk or drive down the roads due to these potholes. There are potholes all around the railway station leading to slow-moving traffic. Two-wheeler riders often lose balance and fall off vehicles sustaining injuries on these unavoidable arteries.”
Despite the fact that VIPs and officials frequently pass through these areas, no action has been taken to address the issue. Local residents have repeatedly urged the administration to take immediate action and repair the roads before the situation gets out of hand but to no avail.
Additionally, residents have raised concerns about the impact of the monsoon season on these roads. “When it rains, these potholes fill with water, making them invisible. This significantly increases the risk of an accident,” said Pawan Sharma, a resident of Batala Road.
Residents have approached the authorities concerned many times to take urgent measures to repair the roads and ensure safe commuting for all. Immediate intervention is needed to prevent further accidents and alleviate the sufferings of daily commuters on these roads around the railway station.
