Border Area Sangharsh Committee to hold meet at Attari on Aug 21

The Border Area Sangharsh Committee, an organisation working for farmers tilling their land beyond the border fence with Pakistan, held a convention here to address the problems faced by people living within a 10-km radius of the India-Pakistan border.

The convention was attended by representatives from various districts, including Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Fazilka and Ferozepur.

The speakers highlighted the difficulties faced by people living in the border areas, including the consequences of wars and conflicts between India and Pakistan. They demanded that the government pay attention to the issues of people living in these areas and provide them with compensation and support.

The representatives demanded that the government provide benefits to people living in the border areas during times of conflict and prioritise recruitment in the military, BSF, paramilitary forces and police.

The convention also demanded that the government take steps to improve the infrastructure and social services in the border areas, including hospitals, schools, roads and transportation. The speakers emphasised the need for border area allowance to attract professionals like doctors and teachers to work there.

The convention decided to conduct elections for the committee in various districts and hold a state-level convention on August 21 at Attari. The speakers emphasised the need to strengthen the committee and continue their struggle .
