Uppal Neuro Hospital in Rani ka Bagh, Amritsar, successfully operated and saved the life of a woman suffering from brain aneurysm. Giving the information, neurosurgeon Dr Shikhil Uppal said that a 60-year-old woman came to the hospital with a severe headache recently. After the examination, it was found that she had two aneurysms in the brain of which one was serious.
After seeing the condition and severity of the aneurysm, a neuro-interventional team of Uppal Hospital decided to operate upon her. Dr Uppal decided to use a flow diverter to operate her, after which the patient is now completely healthy.
Dr Uppal said that in brain aneurysm, the veins inside the patient’s brain start swelling and take the form of a balloon. If the patient is not treated on time, there is a possibility of it bursting, which can even take the life of the patient.
He also informed that a flow diverter is a type of stent that is used in the treatment of aneurysm in the brain. It is inserted in the blood vessels of the brain and diverts the blood flow away from the aneurysm, which reduces the chances of its bursting due to the pressure of blood flow. He said it was the first time that treatment of brain aneurysm had been made possible by a flow diverter. Dr Shikhil Uppal congratulated the neuro-intervention team of Dr Ashraf, Dr Tariq and technical assistants Vinod and Tarun for the successful operation.
