BSF and AFI organise Bordermen Marathon
With the aim of developing cordial relations between the Border Security Force and the youth population in the border belt, the Athletics Federation of India along with the BSF organised a ‘Bordermen Marathon-2025’ here on Sunday. Over 5,200 participants including professionals, amateur runners and personnel from various Central police forces, Army and Punjab Police took part in different categories of the marathon.
It was flagged of by DG, BSF, Daljit Singh Chawdhary from the Golden Gate. He also flagged off the 21-km half-marathon from the War Memorial and 10-km run from Lahorimal village here. All the marathons concluded at the Attari-Wagah joint check-post. The theme of the marathon was ‘Hand in Hand with Border Population in Amritsar, Punjab’.
The marathon route was lined up with BSF personnel as well as hundreds of local people to cheer and boost the morale of runners. Speaking on the occasion, the BSF DG said that apart from giving a message of unity and integrity, the marathon also promotes physical fitness in daily routine.
It also spread awareness against drug abuse by flashing the message of “Say No to Drugs”, he said. Such programmes also inspire the youth not only to become a good sportsperson but also develop the capability to show grit and gumption to achieve their goals, said the DG.
He also handed over prizes and medals to the winners in various categories of competition in the marathon. The BSF Mahila Band played melodious beats during the closing ceremony. A wonderful cultural programme was also organised by BSF troops and others.
Among other officials present on the occasion were Satish K Khandare, ADG BSF (Western Command), Dr Atul Fulzele, IG, BSF Punjab Frontier and SS Chandel, DIG, BSF Amritsar.
