Bulldozer action: Another drug peddler’s house demolished in Amritsar
The Amritsar city police and Municipal Corporation demolished a drug peddler’s house in the infamous Gujjarpura locality here on Thursday.
The house allegedly belonged to Ajay Kumar alias Billi. “Billi has been a notorious drug peddler having five criminal cases, including a robbery case and four NDPS cases registered at Civil Lines and Division C police station here,” said Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar. He added that he has been absconding for around a year now. The two-storey house was being razed down as the MC authorities had designated it as an illegal structure and sought police help for demolition.
As the house was located in the narrow street in the Gujjarpura locality, the JCB machine was unable to demolish it. Later, the authorities manually demolished the upper portion of the illegal structure.
Paramjit Kaur, Ajay Kumar’s mother, repeatedly urged the administration not to raze the house. She said she did not get any prior notice from civic authorities. She said the house was built with her husband’s money, who had died in 2018. She added that she had two widowed daughters and had disinherited Kumar from her property.
This is third such operation in the city. Earlier, the police and civic authorities had demolished houses of two drug traffickers — Sandeep Singh alias Sonu in Bharariwal area on Jhabal road and Gurmeet Singh of Maqboolpura area — on March 6.
Bhullar said an exercise was being carried out to identify the drug peddlers and their properties.
