Special Folklore Exhibition
Amritsar: The Heritage Centre, along with the PG Department of Punjabi, BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, organised a special folklore exhibition to mark the 55th Foundation Day of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. During the exhibition, various artefacts and antique items of Punjabi heritage, such as folk embroidery, \Iphulkaris, durries\I, handicraft agricultural tools, musical instruments, artistic vessels as well as Punjabi clothing and accessories were displayed. In addition to this, the college students performed traditional Punjabi \Iboliyan \Iand \Igiddha\I. Principal Dr Pushpinder Walia said that it is of paramount importance to preserve as well as revive the cultural heritage of traditional Punjab which forms the bedrock of our collective identity.
Dr Laxmi Chopra appointed principal
Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) has appointed Dr Laxmi Chopra, Assistant Professor at Khalsa College of Education (KCE), Ranjit Avenue as the Principal of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur College for Women. She has a long teaching experience of about 12 years apart from having a doctorate in the field of education. She joined her office in the presence of Khalsa University Pro-Chancellor and KCGC secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina. Chhina said that this girls' college has been serving the cause of women's education for a long time in the interior parts of the city. Dr Chopra thanked the management, especially KCGC president Satyajit Singh Majithia, Chhina and others. She also expressed happiness by reiterating her commitment to fulfill the responsibility as principal with honesty and dedication. She said that it was a proud moment for her to serve the institution under KCGC.
Legal awareness programme
Government Senior Secondary School (Boys), Ajnala, organised a legal awareness programme. As per the instructions of National Legal Services Authority, Member Secretary and Punjab State District Legal Services Authority, the Government Senior Secondary School for Boys in block Ajnala, held a legal awareness seminar for women. The Anganwadi workers were made aware about legal rights regarding domestic violence against women, dowry extortion and social injustices such as child marriage, female infanticide etc. Awareness was raised about the rights of women in the ongoing campaign. The seminar was organised by the District Legal Services Authority and members of district courts.
