World radio day celebrated

Amritsar: The PG Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Khalsa College, organised a guest lecture on World Radio Day celebrated on February 13. Radio Jockey (RJ) Aditya Sharma from 92.7 Big FM was the guest speaker, who gave important tips for a successful career in radio journalism. Dr Mehal Singh talked about the significance of radio and said it is a low-cost medium, specifically suited to reaching remote communities and vulnerable people. It offers a platform to intervene in the public debate for over a century now and irrespective of people’s educational level, it continues to play a crucial role in emergency communication and disaster relief. About 70 students from postgraduate and graduate classes from different disciplines attended the event. RJ Sharma said radio stations are serving diverse communities, offering a wide variety of programmes, viewpoints and content, and reflect the diversity of audiences in their organisations and operations.

Graduation Ceremony at spring dale

Students of outgoing Class XII of Spring Dale Senior School bid adieu to their alma mater, teachers and juniors today in a graduation ceremony held at school. The students shared compliments for their batch mates, academic and several other challenges faced in their learning journey and also some beautiful words of gratitude to their revered teachers. Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, chairman, Spring Dale Educational Society, said the batch of 2023-24 was special because it brought laurels to the school in the form of high ranks in CLAT and JEE along with CBSE Heritage India Quiz national winner trophy. The members of the school management and staff also shared the host of experiences that they had over the years with these tiny toddlers turning into young adults..

Sarojini Naidu remembered

NCC Army Wing department of SR Government College for Women celebrated National Women’s Day on in honour of Sarojini Naidu, a woman activist, statesman, poetess and first woman governor of Indian province. NCC department celebrated the 145th birth anniversary of Sarojini Naidu, who was a pioneer of women’s rights. NCC cadets made posters, delivered speeches, recited poems and performed one- act play depicting the challenges faced by women in society and how they have become empowered to face all the pervasive challenges in society. Principal Daljit Kaur motivated the cadets to follow the ideals of Sarojini Naidu and bring a revolutionary change in the existing society. CTO Ekta Verma spoke on the unparalleled contribution of Sarojini Naidu for establishing women’s rights in the patriarchal society and how she had always stood for empowerment of women in India, and this day will empower and encourage women and recognise their contribution to society.

National Women’s Day at KCET

The NCC Wing of Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology (KCET), Ranjit Avenue, in association with NCC Punjab Battalion 24 and women cell of the college organised a seminar and poster making competition on the occasion of National Women’s Day. Dr Manju Bala, principal, said women empowerment must be about ensuring equal access to education, healthcare, employment, and leadership roles. “It’s about challenging stereotypes, biases, and discriminatory practices that perpetuate gender inequality. Women empowerment is not just a buzzword, it’s a fundamental necessity for building a more equitable and inclusive society,” she said. After lecture on women empowerment by Dr Shruti Khanna, NCC cadets of the college had a poster making event to raise awareness on the importance of women’s empowerment in driving societal progress. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, honorary secretary, KCCS, lauded the efforts of director and her team for this event and said that such events enlighten students so that they can help to create equitable society.

RJ Hunt Competition at GNDU

The Department of Mass Communication is thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of its RJ Hunt Competition. The event served as a captivating showcase of the boundless talent and creativity exhibited by students from Department of Mass Communication within the realm of radio broadcasting. Dr Vasudha Sambhayal, head, Department of Mass Communication, said each performance was assessed based on a comprehensive set of criteria, including fluency, spontaneity, presentation, sense of humour, and communication skills. After an exhilarating series of performances, Tanisha Kohli was announced winner of the competition, followed by Pravesh Kumar as the 1st runner-up. They were presented with trophies and certificates as tokens of their achievement.
