Campus notes: Annual function celebrated

Amritsar: Students of Classes IV and V of Shri Ram Ashram Public School participated in the annual function ‘Mehak Punjab Di’ on July 13 to celebrate the rich culture and traditions of Punjab. Approximately 300 students took part in the event. Dr Charan Kamal Singh (managing director, Jai Kamal Eye Hospital) was the chief guest. The function commenced with the lighting of the traditional lamp followed by a heart-warming welcome address by the school principal Dr Vinodita Sankhyan. She read out the annual report, which highlighted the achievements of the school in both academic and co-curricular activities. The event was a captivating portrayal of the current scenario where many Punjabis leave their home land to settle abroad, particularly in countries like Canada. The performance depicted a heartfelt narrative of Punjabis, who after settling abroad, return to Punjab to visit friends and family. They were mesmerised by the rich cultural heritage and festival celebrations that make Punjab unique. The event was a great success. The efforts of the students and their dedication to portray such a significant cultural narrative were highly appreciated by the audience.

Guidance Session

SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar, held a Guidance Session regarding Symbiosis Centre of Distance Learning for the passed out students of B.Com and BBA on Saturday. Fifty students received information about the various courses. It is worth mentioning that Symbiosis Centre of Distance Learning has granted the approval for the establishment of student support centre in the college to offer postgraduate diploma and certificate courses in the fields of commerce, management and computers, etc. Jagdish Singh, director of SSSS Institutions, while congratulating the students and the faculty, said it is the only institution of Symbiosis Centre of Distance Learning in this region. College principal Dr Navdeep Kaur said Dr Payal, coordinator of the centre, will provide comprehensive information on admissions and course aspects to interested students. College students who have completed B.Com, B.Com (FS), BBA, B.Sc Economics and M.Com and are doing part-time jobs or working professionals, who are unable to pursue regular degree courses, will find this facility beneficial for their future and career prospects.

Plantation drive

A plantation drive was started in Khalsa College with the aim of keeping the surrounding environment clean and green. Under the directions of Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, secretary of Khalsa College Governing Council, trees were planted in front of the new commerce and computer building built on the Khalsa College campus. Principal Dr Mahal Singh said the plantation campaign was started today. Under the campaign, a target has been set to plant 500 saplings in the college campus in July, for which a plantation campaign has been started by the agriculture department and boys and girls. Apart from this, saplings were planted on the college grounds and roadside areas, in which flowering, shady and fruit-bearing plants were planted. He said from January to March this year, mango and other mango orchards have been planted over 5 acres in the college.

Saplings planted

NCC cadets of School of Eminence, Chheharta, under the First Punjab Battalion NCC, Amritsar, started a tree plantation drive by planting different types of saplings on the school campus with the support of Police Sanjh Kendra, Amritsar West. SHO, Chheharta, Sarmail Singh and Sub-Inspector Sukhwant Singh, in-charge of Police Sanj Centre, Amritsar West, planted saplings. Navdeep Kaur, vice-principal, School Staff and NCC cadets were present on the occasion. School principal Manmeet Kaur said every year a van mahotsav is celebrated on the school campus with the support of the NCC Department and the Police Department. Manmeet Kaur said maximum number of trees should be planted and the use of plastic should be reduced for the purity of the environment. Cloth bags should be used instead of polythene envelopes.
