Campus notes: Annual Sports Day

The Hindu College held its annual sports day. It was graced by the esteemed presence of Davinder Ahuja, an Arjuna Award-winning badminton champion and an alumnus of Hindu College. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 150 students across 16 competitions. Davinder Ahuja inspired students to take up sports even if as a hobby for it teaches various life skills like leadership, team management and coordination. He emphasised the importance of sports and how sports is now a viable career option. Dr Ranjit and Dr JP Singh inspired the students to uphold the values of fraternity and team spirit in their address. Principal Sanjay Khanna emphasised the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle and the significance of a nutritious diet. President of the Hindu College Alumni Association, Ashok Sethi, further elevated the dignity of the event with his presence. Winners of various competitions were honoured with medals and certificates.

Internship training

The Institution’s Innovation Council of DAV College organised an internship training for students under the guidance of Principal and IIC president Dr Amardeep Gupta. Twenty-three students of BCA, B.Sc (IT), B.Sc (CS) -Semester II, IV, VI, namely, Kashish Sharma, Divyam Seth, Kawya Narang, Muskan, Arsh, Daksh, Loveleen Kaur, Daniya, Dhruv, Rahatbeer Singh, Kayanat, Samashti Chawla, Madhav, Sidak, Vansh, Pankaj, Rajdeep, Onkar, Jivika, Harsh Kumar, Anmoldeep Singh, Bhumika and Suvanshi attended a 45-day internship at AOSC Technologies Pvt Ltd. These students learnt about Microsoft Power applications, web development, user interfaces, data modelling, Power BI etc. Principal Dr Gupta congratulated the students and stated that internship gives a student the opportunity for career exploration and development and learn new skills.

Blood Donation Camp

Shri Ram Ashram Public School organised an annual blood donation camp in collaboration with the Blood Bank of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar on its campus. The camp was inaugurated by the school principal Dr Vinodita Sankhyan, who expressed gratitude to all the donors and the medical team for their support. Addressing the gathering, she emphasised the significance of blood donation in saving lives and encouraged more such initiatives in the future. Dr Kanwaljit Aulakh and Dr Neel Kamal from Guru Nanak Dev Hospital with her team ensured smooth and safe blood collection while adhering to all necessary health protocols. Each donor was provided with refreshments and a memento and a certificate of appreciation as a token of gratitude. A total of 50 plus units of blood were collected during the camp making a meaningful contribution to those in need.

Sikh Environment Day

Woodstock Public School, Batala, commemorated Sikh Environment Day, by paying homage to the seventh Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Har Rai. The observance was held under the esteemed leadership of Chairman Dr Satnam Singh Nijjar, Chairperson Dr Satinderjit Nijjar and Principal Dr Ancy. The occasion commenced with a soulful recitation of Sri Sukhmani Sahib, followed by an earnest Ardas (prayer) invoking universal harmony and well-being (Chardi Kala). The institution also launched a kitchen garden initiative under Principal Dr Ancy, fostering a culture of self-sufficiency and ecological consciousness among students. This initiative aims to instill the values of organic farming, environmental stewardship and mindful consumption, reinforcing the school’s commitment to green living.

Oath-taking of vet graduates

The Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (KCVAS), conducted an oath-taking ceremony of 53 passing out veterinary graduates. Dr HK Verma, Principal, KCVAS, administered the veterinarian’s oath to the graduates passing out and asked them to ensure veterinary practice in line with the principles of veterinary ethics. Gunbir Singh, Joint Secretary (Finance), Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC), said this is the time where they can help the rural farmers by keeping their livestock healthy. Dr SK Nagpal blessed the new vets with the advice to work with integrity, sincerity and honesty while serving the creatures. Dr HK Verma emphasised that the number one position in milk production is due to the large number of cattle and buffaloes possessed by the small, landless and marginal farmers, those who cannot invest. A wound healing ointment, ‘RapidoHeal’, developed by the Department of LPT under the leadership of Dr VV Kulkarni was released by the chief guest. This product can be used to treat the wounds in animals and has excellent healing properties.
