Campus notes: Bhashini challenge organised

Amritsar: Anil Mehra, president of Dry Fruit Association, addressed the students in a programme titled ‘Bhashini Challenge’ organised by Institutions Innovation Council of DAV College in Amritsar. He opined that determination is about staying focused on a goal. “Determination helps one to overcome failure. The best thing about determination is that it helps one keep moving ahead regardless of what’s put in front of him/her. With determination, failure is just a diversion. It’s not an end,” he said. Principal Dr Amardeep Gupta felicitated the winners of the challenge on the occasion. Dr Gupta said self-belief is an essential ingredient for a successful life.

Seminar on Women Empowerment

On the occasion of National Women’s Day, the NCC Wing of Khalsa College for Women, in collaboration with the Alumni Cell organised a lecture and poster-making competition on women empowerment. Pooja Gill, an alumni, also a successful businesswoman and a social worker was the resource person. The guest lecture was specially organised for the NCC cadets. Principal Dr Surinder Kaur said empowering women starts from own home. She spoke about the importance of culture, family values and the self-respect that a woman should possess. She highlighted that the key to women empowerment is economic independence and unconditional family support. The cadets felt quite confident and enlightened after the lecture. Vote of thanks was delivered by NCC coordinator Dr Jaswinder Singh.

Paper on Anti-Cancer Therapy

Vishal Choudhary, a B.Sc. (Medical) student of Khalsa College Amritsar (KCA), has contributed in a research paper entitled “Chalcones: Potent Synthons for Multi-Cell Line Anti-Cancer Therapy” published in Chemistry Select, a Wiley Journal. Under Dr Jasneet Kaur and Dr Amit Anand’s guidance, Vishal’s involvement underscores the college’s commitment to fostering research-oriented education, even at the undergraduate level. Vishal was honoured for his contribution by Principal Dr Mehal Singh and Dean Academic Affairs. Dr Taminder Singh. Principal said such recognition not only celebrates individual achievements but also underscores the institution’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and innovation among its students.

Expert talk on Viksit Bharat

Under the aegis of “Viksit Bharat @2047: Voice of Youth,” Amritsar Group of Colleges, organised an expert talk on “Education and Entrepreneurship” on its campus recently. Dr Sandeep Kaushal, Co-founder, and Managing Partner of SecureHack, Mohali, was the keynote speaker for the event. , Principal Dr Gaurav Tejpal, Dean Students Affairs Amit Singh, Coordinators of Departments, faculty members and students were present on the occasion. Dr Gaurav Tejpal stated “Viksit Bharat @2047: Voice of Youth” aims to focus the energies of students and young people on achieving the common goal of “Viksit Bharat.”

Mental health seminar held

A seminar on ‘Mental Health and Nutrition’ by Prof Mini Sharma (Head of Department) Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Khalsa College for Women, Amritsar, was organised by Gems Cambridge International School . Professor Mini Sharma focused on the fascinating connections between brain and the body. She encouraged students to eat healthy, avoid junk food and avoid depending on supplements for nutrition. She interacted with the students about the lifestyle diseases and their cure by changing their diet.

School holds annual function

Shri Ram Ashram Sen Sec School organised its annual function ‘Ananda Mahotsava’ for Nursery wing. Principal Neetu Sharma commenced the event by lighting the lamp. The blooming buds attired in vibrant colours put up a wonderful show by presenting rhymes, aerobics and dance performances. Parents were overwhelmed to watch their children perform giddha. Principal Neetu Sharma lauded the efforts of the participants and added that the institution strives for holistic and moral development of the students. Balbir Bajaj acknowledged the efforts of the students and wished them a bright future.

Workshop on careers in IT held

A four-day workshop on trends and careers in the IT field organised by the Career Guidance Cell of Sri Guru Arjun Dev (SGAD) Government College concluded recently. Assistant Professor Baljeet Kaur from Computer Science Department of GNDU College, Chungh, was the speaker for the workshop. Students were apprised of various practical skills in order to avail jobs in the IT sector, said Vice-Principal Dr Gurinderjit Kaur. Prof Baljeet Kaur also looked into the problem faced by the students and explained their probable solutions. He said it is hard to choose the right path after completion of studies if students are unaware of the potential possibilities in the job market. Prof Jasjit Singh said the Department of Higher Education is organising such workshops to make students ready for the job market. “Students have desire to get good job but they need to work hard to fulfil their goals,” Prof Prabhjot Kaur added. College staff Prof Ramandeep Kaur, Prof Harpreet Singh and Prof Subash Maini also interacted with students during the workshop.
