Amritsar: Saroop Rani Government College for Women, Amritsar, has been awarded an ‘A’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its Cycle 3 evaluation. The NAAC peer team conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the college on August 13 and 14. The team, led by Chairperson NK Kalyankar, with Dr Amrish Dubey as Member Co-coordinator and Dr Raju George as Member, assessed the institution across various criteria, resulting in the awarding of an ‘A’ grade. Principal Daljit Kaur expressed her sincere gratitude to the Directorate of Higher Education, Punjab, for their support throughout the process. Dr Surinder Kaur, IQAC, Coordinator, highlighted that the NAAC evaluation was based on seven key criteria: curriculum aspects, teaching-learning and evaluation, research, innovation and extension, infrastructure and learning resources, student support and progression, governance, leadership and management, and institutional values and best practices.
Innovation Hackathon organised
The eco-club of DAV College, Amritsar, in collaboration with Institution Innovation Council organised an “Eco Creativity and Innovation Hackathon” related to various environmental themes. Addressing the students, Principal Dr Amardeep Gupta said organising an eco-friendly hackathon is a highly significant endeavour, particularly when the theme centres on sustainability. Prof Nihita Sharma, convener, Eco Club, said various participants displayed their skills in various events under the programme such as poster-making competition, declamation contest and PowerPoint presentation. The motive of this programme was to aware the students about the environmental challenges and to inform them about various methods to save the earth.
Janmashtami celebrated
EXCELSUM HIGH Senior Secondary School celebrated Janmashtami with devotion. The event aimed to teach students the values of sharing and respect while emphasising the significance of the occasion. The students delivered a vibrant performance depicting Lord Krishna’s birth and the triumph of good over evil. Dressed as Radha and Krishna, they beautifully portrayed life’s stages, filling the atmosphere with joy, music, and dance. Director Principal Gunita Grewal encouraged students to embrace the present and practice benevolence.
Session on technical textiles
An orientation session on technical textiles under the SIDBI Cluster Intervention Programme for the Technical Textile Cluster, Amritsar, successfully concluded at Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan Auditorium, GNDU, Amritsar. The event saw enthusiastic participation from industry stakeholders, including textile MSMEs, researchers, and government representatives. The session in collaboration with Guru Nanak Dev University, Textile Manufacturers Association (TMA) and Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, featured sessions on technical textiles product development, market potential for viable products and advanced machinery driving innovation in the textile industry. Dr Palwinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, Guru Nanak Dev University, delivered the keynote address and highlighted Amritsar’s role in the field of technical textiles.
‘Akhar’ literary magazine launched
In a special programme at the School of Punjabi Studies, Guru Nanak Dev University, Akhar Sahithik magazine (September-December 2024 issue) was launched. Dr Manjinder Singh, Head, School of Punjabi Studies, said Akhar (literary magazine) is expanding in new directions the supervision of editor-in-chief Vishal. He said the magazine has a unique identity among popular Punjabi magazines as it is full of creative content related to creativity and thought. Dr Manmohan Singh (IPS) said ‘Akhar’ magazine is taking steps in the right direction in the hands of editor-in-chief Vishal, following the rich footsteps of its heritage. Dr Baljit Kaur Riad said that the dream of poet Praminderjit to get recognition of ‘Akhar’ magazine has been realised by chief editor Vishal through the hard work of his entire team. Vishal, Editor-in-Chief of Akhar, said it is a very proud moment for me to launch the new issue of Akhar at the School of Punjabi Studies, Guru Nanak Dev University.
Sakshi shines in academics
Sakshi Sharma of MA Hindi Semester 4 of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya got the second position in Guru Nanak Dev University. Sakshi got 1,285 marks out of 1,600 and secured second position. Principal Prof Ajay Sareen congratulated the student. Head of Hindi Department Dr Jyoti Gogia, Asstt Prof Pawan Kumari and Dr Deepti Dhir were also present.
Stuti 2nd in BBA
Students of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, bagged top positions in university exams conducted by the GNDU. A student of BBA Semester 4 Stuti Kharbanda scored 603 marks out of 750 and bagged the second position in the university. Archa scored 594 marks and Khushi Kohli scored 581 marks out of 750 and bagged fourth and sixth positions in the university, respectively. Principal Neerja Dhingra congratulated the students and their parents and wished them a bright future.
Janmashtami festivities in hostel
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya celebrated Janmashtami with a vibrant and joyous event. KMV hostel brought together residents and staff for a day filled with devotion and fun. The chief guest for the occasion was Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi. The highlight of the celebration was the matka-breaking competition as the students gathered in the hostel courtyard to form a human pyramid, reminiscent of Lord Krishna’s legendary love for butter and mischief. With a great sense of camaraderie and teamwork, participants attempted to break the matka, echoing the spirit of unity and togetherness. Another exciting part of the event was the gopi dressing activity. Students came dressed as gopis, the playful companions of Lord Krishna. The event left everyone with fond memories and a deeper understanding of the significance of Lord Krishna’s birthday.
Pawandeep excels in GNDU Results
Students of BSc (Fashion Designing) Semester II of PCM S.D. College for Women have achieved outstanding results in the GNDU examination. Pawandeep Kaur secured the first position in the university with an SGPA of 8.73 out of 10 (87.50% marks), while Durgesh attained the third position with an SGPA of 8.45 (84.50% marks). President Naresh Budhia, senior vice-president Vinod Dada and Principal Pooja Prashar congratulated the achievers.
