Amritsar: DAV National Sports Cluster Level Tournament was organised at DAV Public School, Lawrence Road. The day brought together 373 talented sports persons from nine schools of cluster V. The teams that competed in various events were DAV Public School, Lawrence Road, Amritsar; DAV International School, Verka bypass, Amritsar; Police DAV Public School, Amritsar; MKD DAV Public School, Attari; GND DAV Public School, Bhikhiwind; Dr Dault Ram Bhalla Public School, Batala; JRS DAV Public School, Chhabal, Dhan Devi DAV Public School, Gurdaspur; and Jiya Lal Mittal DAV Public School, Gurdaspur. The tournament featured badminton, chess, football, karate, swimming and yoga events. The boys U-17 badminton title was won by DAV Public School, Lawrence Road; the boys U-19 badminton by DAV International School; boys U-14 football title was won by MKDDAV Public School, while U-17 title went to DAV Public School, Lawrence Road. The U-14 and U-17 chess titles were won by DAV Public School, Lawrence Road, while the U-19 chess title went to DAV International School, Verka bypass. The girls U-14, U-17 and U-19 badminton titles were won by DAV Public School, Lawrence Road. In the U-17 chess, DAV International School, Verka bypass was the winner.

Students win scholarship

Spring Dale Senior School won accolades in a nature camp held recently. Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, chairman, Spring Dale Educational Society, shared that a team of students comprising Guneet Kaur, Mehardeep Kaur and Mehreen Kaur and their mentor Nisha Kesar offered to be a part of this nature camp organised in Panchkula by Goethe Institute and won a scholarship for outstanding performance in the German language assessments. He said during the camp the school students got an opportunity to interact with the German language learners of 14 top schools selected from all across the country to be a part of this camp titled ‘In Nature, with Nature and from Nature’. The students won first prise, certificates and gift hampers in the competitions organised during this two-day camp. He said Max Mueller Bhavan is the cultural institute of the federal republic of Germany active worldwide to promote the study of German language.

Swami Swatantranand college

Gurdaspur: Swami Swatantranand Memorial College, Dinanagar, got Award of Excellence from Harjot Singh Bains, Minister, Higher Education and Languages, Punjab for getting A+ grade by NAAC. A felicitation ceremony to celebrate the occasion was organised by the Department of Higher Education on July 29 at the Guru Nanak Dev University. During the ceremony, principals of the institutions who got A, A+ or A++ grade during the NAAC accreditation process were felicitated. The award ceremony aims to acknowledge the remarkable achievement of the institutions in the field of higher education. Principal RK Tuli was bestowed with the award of excellence in education for getting the grade with 3.40 CGPA. tns
