Campus notes: Independence Day celebrated
Indian Institute of Management
Amritsar: Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Amritsar, celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day on campus. Director Nagarajan Ramamoorthy along with IKGPTU Amritsar campus’ director Ashish Arora hoisted the national flag. The flag-hoisting ceremony was accompanied by the National Anthem. Ramamoorthy said, “Freedom comes with accountability and responsibility. It empowers us to create a just and equal society.” He also expressed concern regarding the changing meaning of freedom in the world of social media, where protection of rights was becoming a cover to impose opinions. A series of cultural events were showcased by the students, including a group dance and a nukkad natak on the ill-effects of drug use. A flash mob at Nexus Mall presented dance performances for visitors.
BBK DAV College for Women
BBK DAV College for Women celebrated Independence Day with patriotic fervour. Subedar Major Honorary Capt Satpal Singh, Sena Medal, Training Sub Major, 1 Pb Girls Battalion, NCC, Amritsar, was the chief at the ceremony. The day commenced with the hoisting of the national flag, followed by an oath-taking ceremony for a drug-free India under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. A street play titled ‘Mein Bharat Hu’ was also performed. Additionally, an exhibition on Partition Horror Remembrance Day was displayed in the college foyer. Volunteers from the NSS unit participated in a tree plantation drive. Principal Pushpinder Walia reiterated the immense faith that over a billion citizens of India place in the Indian Army, emphasising its crucial role in border security, counter-terrorism ventures, as well as providing essential support to civil administration when required.
Senior Study School
The students of Senior Study School celebrated Independence day with great pride and enthusiasm. Director Vijay Mehra and Principal Upasana Mehra hoisted the national flag. The junior wing students put up a spectacular show in honour of the invaluable contribution of Indian heroes from the past and present. The students participated in various cultural programmes, including dance performances, patriotic songs and skits that highlighted the significance of independence and the sacrifices made by freedom fighters. A special skit was performed by students of the middle school, depicting the struggle for independence and the importance of unity and peace.
Wood Blossom School
The 78th Independence Day was celebrated at Wood Blossom School, Kairon, with the unfurling of the national flag by retired Group Captain Harmeet Singh Mavi, Chairman of Harkul Educational and Welfare Society, Director Harkirat Singh Mavi, Principal Taniya Khurana, followed by singing of the National Anthem and a cultural programme comprising patriotic songs, classical dance performances, nukkad natak and a play ‘Sipahi ki Maa’ written by Mohan Rakesh. The school also awarded medals to the achievers of the recently hosted district and zonal games. U-19 basketball girls team got the first position at the district-level games, while the U-19 boys basketball team stood second. The U-19 zonal badminton boys won the singles and doubles matches. TNS
