Amritsar: The Society for Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension (SVAHE), has inducted Dr HK Verma, Principal, Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (KCVAS), Amritsar, as ‘Fellow’ of the society for his contribution in promoting veterinary extension for the welfare and bringing sustainability for livestock farmers. Dr Verma, who presented a lead paper at the international conference at Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, and chaired the technical session of the event is a known name in extension education. He said Dr Leah Carmichael, Director of Active Learning, University of Georgia, USA, was the special guest of honour to boost the morale of extension scientists during the conference, which was organised under the aegis of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai. The theme of the conference was “Innovative Education, Research and Extension Approaches for Transmitting Scientific Know-How to Augment Livestock Production in the Contemporary Scenario”. 150 delegates from 15 states and other countries participated to share their experience/contribution to the farming community.

BBK DAV College for Women

Students of BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, brought laurels to the college by securing placements in AOSC Technologies, an Australian-based Microsoft partner company, which offers comprehensive solutions in application and software development and provides professional services in offshore accounting and bookkeeping. During a college placement drive, 14 students were selected by the recruitment panel. Principal Pushpinder Walia congratulated the students on their stupendous achievement and lauded the constant efforts of Manoj Puri, Dean, Placements, and his entire team.

Revel Dale Public School

A quiz was conducted at Revel Dale Public School, Attari. It was based on the article ‘What’s ailing the earth’, which was published in The Tribune (Student Edition) on July 5. The purpose of conducting the quiz was to make all the children aware of the damage being done by the insensitive attitude of human beings towards mother earth. “A strong wave of inspiration was released in the environment of the school when all students resolved in all earnestness to counter all the activities that are hazardous for the environment,” said principal Rajiv Arora.

Guru Teg Bahadur College

A team of educationists from Belgium visited the Sri Guru Teg Bahadur College for Women for student interaction and also to see the first-hand experience of practical education being imparted in professional courses to students here. The delegation was headed by Christine Jaminon, who is an educator, and Anupam Christine. Principal Nanak Singh said they explored possibilities of setting a unique system of application based education, classroom learning through practical in collaboration with the college. Christine Jaminon interacted with students to understand more about education status of women and held detailed discussion on the higher education programme in India.

Eklavya School

Jalandhar: Eklavya School organised a calligraphy competition on its school premises to improve presentation skills and inculcate the habit of good handwriting. Chairman JK Gupta exhorted students to participate in the competition as it activates the brain and contributes to reading fluency. Director Seema Handa said the students should be encouraged to write properly and these competitions turn out to be meaningful for them. All students of pre-primary wing participated in the competition. The assessment was done on the basis of writing style, curves, patterns, legibility, neatness and beautification.

GNDU, Regional Campus

A tree plantation drive held under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign was organised on the campus by NSS unit of Guru Nanak Dev University, Regional Campus, Ladhewali. Over 20 types of medicinal plants such as neem, ashwagandha, tulsi, calendula, costus etc. were planted on the campus. Rupum Jagota, Associate Dean (Academic Affairs & Student Welfare), exhorted the students to take part in more such initiatives. Charan Kamal Walia, Programming Officer NSS, talked about the depleting environmental conditions and their effects.
