Campus notes: Lohri celebrated at GNDU

Guru Nanak Dev University celebrated Lohri with great enthusiasm as Vice-Chancellor Prof Karamjeet Singh joined the university’s non-teaching staff for the occasion. Prof Singh ceremoniously lit the Lohri bonfire, accompanied by Registrar Prof Karanjeet Singh Kahlon, Prof Shalini Behl, Col Amarbir Singh Chahal, and other officials. The event saw active participation from the non-teaching staff, embodying the inclusive and vibrant culture of GNDU. Traditional Lohri songs and celebrations around the bonfire added to the festive spirit. Prof Singh extended warm wishes to all employees and their families, emphasising the role of such events in fostering unity and belonging within the university community.

Faculty development programme

Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology (KCET), Ranjit Avenue, hosted a week-long AICTE-sponsored ATAL Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on the theme “Advancing Smart Manufacturing: Unlocking the Power of Industry 4.0 for Modern Applications.” The event drew 153 participants from 15 states, including representatives from NITs, Central Universities, and private institutions. The programme featured 13 sessions led by nine national and one international speaker. Dr Manju Bala, Director of KCET, highlighted the transformative impact of Industry 4.0 on manufacturing. International speaker Shahnawaz Khan, Associate Professor at Bahrain Polytechnic, presented on topics like “Digital Twins in Manufacturing” and “Data Analytics and AI in Manufacturing.” Atul Pathria, CEO of Quinji Tech, delivered a session on “Cybersecurity in Industry 4.0,” emphasising the need to protect smart manufacturing systems. The FDP provided a platform for participants to explore cutting-edge advancements in the field and gain insights from academic and industry leaders.

Shillong students visit Pingalwara

A group of 22 postgraduate social work students from William Carey University, Shillong, Meghalaya, visited the Manawala branch of the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society. The students, accompanied by their teachers, interacted with the institution’s residents, caregivers, and staff. During the visit, they toured the school, fitness centre, vocational training workshop and computer labs that serve the Pingalwara community. The delegation also had the opportunity to meet Pingalwara Director Dr Inderjit Kaur and Coordinator Yogesh Suri, gaining valuable insights into the organisation’s impactful work.

Lohri celebrated at Chabal school

Tarn Taran: The festival of Lohri was celebrated at Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School, Chabal, with exuberance and fanfare on Friday. Tiny-tots of primary and pre-primary wing were attired in traditional dresses. Different activities such as kite-making with sticks and ribbons, colourful posters with popcorns and groundnut peels were a part of this event. Teacher Maninderjeet Kaur informed the students about the history of this cultural event. Lohri songs were presented gleefully by the students and teachers. Members of the school management and principal Anureet Bawa lit the Lohri bonfire. Addressing the students, the school principal informed the students about the dangers of Chinese kite string and advised them to use simple varieties. The students enjoyed the festival while cherishing rewari, peanuts and popcorn.
