Campus notes: Spring Dale School
Amritsar: Festive vibes prevailed and the premises of Spring Dale School came alive with the pulsating thumps of dhol on the occasion of Lohri celebrations. Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, chairman, Spring Dale Educational Society, said the students of his school’s pre-college wing and their teachers celebrated Lohri to mark the festive and cultural fervour. “The message of the occasion for the students and their families remained “Gender equality” while celebrating the day as “Kudiyan Di Lohri” and an official appeal to discourage the use of banned Chinese string was also issued by the school in form of an advisory circulated to the children,” said Sandhu. In his address to the students, Rajiv Kumar Sharma, the school principal, shared that under its social-outreach programme the school has been running sensitisation campaigns against the female foeticide and gender-partiality. “As an institution striving for the social-upliftment and youth empowerment, the school has always been celebrating the ‘Girl-Power’, to give our girls their due respect,” said Sharma.

Lohri and Makar Sankranti were celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm at Shri Ram Ashram Public School. In the spirit of adapting to the current times, a colourful virtual programme was presented by the students of grade V to mark the event. Students showcased their talents through video performances, presenting traditional dances, folk music, and cultural displays that added vibrancy to the virtual festivity. While in the school, the programme kicked off with glorious ‘Dhuni Pujan’ by the principal along with the staff. Everyone took part in traditional Lohri rituals, sharing warmth, sweets and good wishes. President of the school, Balbir Bajaj, wished everyone on the festival of Lohri and said that such festivals increase brotherhood and love. Principal of the school, Dr Vinodita Sankhyan, wished and motivated everyone to spread warmth, kindness, and compassion in their daily lives.

A nagar kirtan to be taken out on January 16 to mark the Parkash Utsav of Sri Guru Gobind Singh at Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School, GT Road, by Chief Khalsa Diwan(CKD). A meeting was held to review the preparations for smooth arrangements, under which the arrangements for nagar kirtan route, traffic arrangement, discipline, cleanliness, langar, medical aid etc. were discussed. Joint secretary of the CKD and school member in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Prince informed that as per the instructions of Chief Khalsa Diwan president Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar and honorary secretary Savinder Singh Kathunangal. He said before the departure, the CKD has arranged for langar, tea, dry fruits, milk, etc. for the devotees and special arrangements have been made for cleanliness as well as medical aid for the children on the way. He said that gataka teams of students will showcase their art at school campus, Railway Station Chowk, Hall Gate, Gol Hatti Chowk, Saragarhi Chowk and Jallianwala Bagh Chowk.
SSSS College of Commerce
SSSS College of Commerce for Women celebrated Lohri, the festival that offers a panorama of our culture especially that of northern India. All students embraced the spirit of the festival by wearing traditional attire salwar kameez and thrilling on the beats of music and traditional Punjabi folk songs like ‘ Sunder Munderiye’. Students also enjoyed home-cooked delicacies with friends. Director Jagdish Singh and principal Dr Navdeep Kaur congratulated and blessed all for good health and happiness and conveyed the message to live a life of truth, virtues, cooperation and discipline as it would prove to be an upper hand in enduring a respectable life ahead.

Eklavya School expressed its admiration and gratitude to the Indian Army by celebrating Army Day with zeal. Chairman of school JK Gupta appreciated the efforts of students in understanding the importance of patriotism. NSS units and Red Ribbon Club of Lyallpur Khalsa College celebrated National Youth Day with a series of activities related to youth and social welfare throughout the week under the guidance of Principal Dr Jaspal Singh. The Principal, in his opening remarks, motivated the youth to participate in activities that promote national development and integrity. He added that the youth has the potential to achieve the dream of Viksit Bharat (developed India) by 2047. He advised volunteers of NSS and members of RRC to disseminate the lessons learnt by participating in these activities. Chief Programme Officer Prof Satpal Singh informed that various youth-oriented activities like a declamation contest on ‘My Bharat Viksit Bharat’, pledge for national development, rallies related to awareness of HIV/AIDS and blood donation camps were organised. Road Safety Week was also initiated in collaboration with NYKS in which a lecture by ASI Shamsher Singh from the Traffic Education Cell, was delivered. T-shirts and caps were also distributed. A rally regarding road safety, by raising slogans to make people aware, was also organised. A live telecast of the inauguration of National Youth Festival 2024 was shown to the gathering. Six LKC volunteers and PO Surbjit Singh are attending National Youth Festival 2024 at Nasik in Maharashtra on the invitation of the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
