Amritsar: Shri Ram Ashram (SRA) Public School celebrated National Science Day to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian physicist Sir CV Raman in 1928. This day serves to emphasise the value of science and its relevance in our daily lives. “Science for Sustainable Future”, the theme underscores the critical role science and technology play in tackling global challenges and building a more sustainable future for all. Students of Class V conducted a special assembly in which a role play was performed in order to pay homage to ancient and modern Indian scientists like Acharya Sushruta, Acharya Nagarjuna, Acharya Charaka, Acharya Patanjali, Acharya Varahamihira, Acharya Kanad, APJ Abdul Kalam, Homi J Bhabha, S Chandrasekhar, CV Raman and Jagadish Chandra Bose. Through engaging activities and experiments on air pressure, viscosity, surface tension, density, water pressure etc. students got the opportunity to delve into the wonders of science and witness first hand impact of scientific advancement in our daily lives. Principal Vinodita Sankhyan ameliorated the knowledge of students by saying that every year this day is celebrated with a theme.

Alumni Meet organised

SSSS College of Commerce for Women organised alumni meet ‘Sanjh-The Scared Bond’ on Wednesday at Vidyak Bhavan, auditorium SSSS campus. The meet aimed at fostering and promoting bond and association with the passed out students, and collaborating with them for creating opportunities and explore innovative ideas to take SSSS College to great heights. Director Jagdish Singh appreciated the alumna’s contribution for the name and fame of the institution through their attainments in different avenues and for acting as the beacon of hope for the younger generation. Principal Navdeep Kaur thanked the alumnae for sparing their valuable time for strengthening the bond of love and association. She appreciated the students in creating the memories and imagination by being present during the event. The cultural team of the college presented the vibrant cultural programme, comprising fusion of traditional and modern music, Punjabi traditional folk songs, poetry, and dances like gidha for the enjoyment, and creating sweet memories and experiences for the alumnae.

National Science Day observed

National Science Day celebrations were organised by the Physics Students’ Society, Department of Physics, Guru Nanak Dev University. The event was funded by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST) and National Council for Science and Technology Communication, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Various competitions and expert lectures were organised related to the theme, “Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat”. Undergraduate and postgraduate students from the various departments of university campus and more than 100 colleges of the region participated in activities like science quiz, science games, poster making competition, rangoli competition and many more. Prof Atul Khanna, head, Department of Physics, while addressing the participants said that development of indigenous technologies is crucial for making India a developed country by the year 2047. Prof Bikramjit Singh Bajwa, dean, academic affairs, who was the chief guest, motivated the students with his informative address on how Dr CV Raman discovered the “Raman Effect” in 1928, later he got the Noble Prize in physics and became the pride of India.

SBS students pay industrial visit

SBS College of Pharmacy organised an industrial visit for students at herbal health research consortium, Ram Tirath Road, Amritsar, for its students. The students were guided by Vinay, who provided insight regarding layout of plant, production, quality control and research facilities etc. Dr Sachin Saggar, principal, said the industrial visit helps to bridge gap between theoretical learning and practical training, moreover, the students get to learn about industrial practices and regulation and provides an opportunity for students to interact with industry experts. Alka Arora, MD, thanked the management of HHRC for providing the students with an opportunity to visit their facilities.
