Khalsa College for Women (KCW) has received the second prize in the University/College category from the Swachh Bharat Mission under the Municipal Corporation of Amritsar. Principal Surinder Kaur said this award recognises institution's dedication to cleanliness and environmental sustainability. She also added that the achievement highlights their commitment to maintain a clean and green campus and actively participate in city-wide cleanliness initiatives. She said they will continue our efforts to contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment for the community.

Students celebrate Hindi Diwas

Amritsar: Student paid homage to Swami Virjanand on his death anniversary and observed Hindi Diwas at DAV Public School, Lawrence Road. A special assembly was also organised by the students. On this day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted Hindi written in Devanagari script as the official language of the Union. During the special programme presented by the students, they talked about the importance of Hindi. The importance of Hindi was highlighted through poems and speeches. Hindi magazine of the school 'Tinke' was released by the Principal Dr Pallavi Sethi. This magazine, prepared by the students, mentions the creative and far-sighted ideas of the students, future-oriented articles and perspectives. The Principal addressed the students and inspired them to increase their vocabulary and make maximum use of Hindi.

DAV college Star Reader award

Amritsar: To make the students efficient and knowledgeable, DAV College, Amritsar, has initiated a star reader award for the students. This award is given to the students who spend maximum quality time in the college library. The practice has proved fruitful as it has raised and improved the reading habit of the students, informed Principal Dr Amardeep Gupta. Vivek Kumar has been declared the star reader of library for the month of August. Dr Gupta said this appreciation letter is given to the student on the basis of his performance in the library. The library committee, including the librarian and his assistants, observes the active participation of the students in various activities. There are various norms which include the behaviour of the student in the library, the availing of library facilities and his constant reading habit. The award consists of appreciation certificate and a book.

Medical camp organised

Amritsar: Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Golden Avenue, Amritsar, running under the aegis of Chief Khalsa Diwan, hosted a general and dental checkup camp by Chief Khalsa Dewan Charitable Hospital. Additional Secretary of CKD Jaspal Singh Dhillon and school member in-charge Ajit Singh Basra were present on the occasion. The team — Dr Manreet Parashar (MDS), Dr Shelja Gupta (BAMS), Dr Avvalnoor Singh Bath (BDS) and Anil (Dental Assistant) — trained the students in dental and general hygiene, besides inspecting them. Ajit Singh Basra said recognising the importance of health for students' academic performance, we would organise more camps.
