Campus notes: UGC expert committee
BBK DAV College for Women organised an interactive session with an expert committee of the University Grants Commission (UGC) as part of the accessibility audit of higher educational institutions (HEIs). The session focused on fostering inclusivity and accessibility for persons with disabilities (PWDs) through policy reforms, infrastructural improvements and digital advancements. The panel included Dr GS Chohan, joint secretary, UGC, Dr Lokesh Kumar Gupta, Associate Professor, Mata Sundri College for Women, Delhi University, and Dr Sunil, Head, Department of Hindi, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. During the session, the committee discussed key areas such as community engagement, examination and academic support, digital accessibility, institutional policies and infrastructural enhancements. Special emphasis was laid on mentorship programmes, exam assistance, infrastructure development and employment opportunities for students with disabilities. The session also highlighted the need for corporate sponsorships, specialised library resources and mental health support services to create an inclusive academic ecosystem for differently-abled students.
INNO Science 2025
DAV College organised the Inno Science 2025 carnival on March 8, on the theme of “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat”. The event was jointly organised by the departments of Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Biotechnology and Computer Science. It was held with the support of Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST) Chandigarh, National Council for Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The event gathered a large number of students, educators and science enthusiasts from across Punjab. Almost 200 students from 17 colleges of the state participated in different activities like poster-making, PowerPoint presentation and workshops. The event was organised to foster the spirit of scientific curiosity and innovation. Principal Dr Amardeep Gupta stated that innovation is the backbone of any startup. The startups can uplift India at the global level. He added that such events are important to encourage research and innovation among the students.
NAAC A+ grade for Batala college
RR Bawa DAV College for Girls, Batala, secured A+ grade in the third cycle accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The NAAC is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in India. During the accreditation process, the institution was evaluated based on parameters such as curricular aspects, teaching-learning processes, research and innovation, infrastructure, student support and progression, governance, leadership and management along with institutional values and best practices. The NAAC peer team comprising Prof Rajeev Kumar Shukla (Chairperson), Prof R Jayachandran (Member coordinator) and Dr Bhaben Chandra Neog (Member) from reputed government institutions of India visited the campus on February 19-20. Principal Dr Ekta Khosla expressed her gratitude for the recognition and added that “securing an ‘A+’ grade in 3rd cycle of NAAC accreditation with 3.33 CGPA was a matter of pride for the institution, which has been ceaselessly working for women empowerment for the last six decades.
