Campus notes: World Heritage Day at SRA
World Heritage Day, observed on 18th April, was marked with enthusiasm at Shri Ram Ashram Public School, The Mall. Students from Grades I to VIII participated in a range of activities to honour this occasion. The Heritage Food Festival saw students from Classes VI to VIII presenting traditional foods from various Indian states, demonstrating their preparation techniques and sharing the unique characteristics of each dish, promoting cultural diversity and appreciation. In the Collage Making activity, Class VI students created collages of India’s iconic heritage buildings, showcasing their artistic skills and knowledge of India’s rich architectural legacy. The younger students from Class I took part in a colouring activity, illustrating heritage sites and exploring their creativity. Balbir Bajaj, the School President, praised the students and teachers for their efforts, stating that the celebration not only educated them about India’s cultural heritage but also instilled a sense of pride and responsibility to preserve it for future generations. Dr. Vinodita Sankhyan, the Principal, highlighted that as of 2025, India boasts 43 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, reflecting the country’s diverse cultural and natural treasures.
Pandit Vijay Shankar Mishra’s lecture
Amritsar: A special lecture was organised as part of the ‘Gyan Amrit’ series at Guru Nanak Dev University, chaired by Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Head of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. The renowned Tabla virtuoso from the Banaras Gharana, Pandit Vijay Shankar Mishra, was the featured speaker. Pandit Mishra, hailing from a family with a 300-year legacy in Tabla music, is the son of Late Gama Ji Maharaj and grandson of the legendary Tabla maestro Bikaku Ji Maharaj. His talk, entitled 'Many Aspects of Music,' was followed by a lively Q&A session with students. Dr. Gavish Rai conducted the event, and Pandit Vijay Shankar also interacted with the students and research scholars in attendance.
Pragati shines in university exams
Amritsar: Students of the first semester BCom (regular) programme at DAV College Amritsar have excelled in the exams conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University, with results announced today. Pragati Bhatia secured the third position in the university exams, achieving a commendable 8.43 CGPA. Dr. Amardeep Gupta, Principal of the college, expressed pride in the students' success, stating that the college closely monitors their performance. He also highlighted that commerce remains a popular and promising field for those pursuing careers in finance, taxation, and accountancy. The Principal congratulated the students and the department's staff for their hard work, wishing them continued success.
Investiture ceremony
Amritsar: Senior Study II hosted its annual Investiture Ceremony on 16th April, with students from Classes VI to XII attending the event. Shaveta Arora, the Student Council Co-ordinator, addressed the audience, explaining the vital role of the student council in ensuring the smooth running of the school and how council members serve as role models for their peers. The new Head Boys and Head Girls were presented with their sashes by Principal Upasana Mehra. The newly appointed leaders pledged their commitment to the school and took a brief oath to fulfil their duties.
Alumni Meet 2025
Jalandhar: PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya No.2, Jalandhar Cantt, hosted the much-awaited Alumni Meet-2025. The event commenced with batch-pinning, followed by the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. Principal Ravinder Kumar warmly greeted the dignitaries and alumni, highlighting the significance of staying connected with one’s alma mater. The audience enjoyed a soulful musical performance by music teacher Amogh and students, followed by an experience-sharing segment where the alumni fondly recalled memories and spoke about the school’s impact on their lives. A souvenir was presented as a token of appreciation to the attending alumni, followed by an inspiring address by Dr Jaswant Minhas, former principal, who encouraged the alumni to stay connected. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by senior teacher Manjeet Kaur.
Farewell party at HMV
Jalandhar: A farewell party, “Launching stars into the sky-2025” for students of humanities, science and skills was organised in the premises of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya. Principal Prof Ajay Sareen was the chief guest on the occasion. Prof Sareen described the students as “stars ready to be launched into the sky by HMV”, symbolising their readiness to shine brightly in the world with the values, knowledge and experience nurtured during their time at the college. The students presented cultural items and showcased their dexterity through dance, bhangra and poetry recitation. A modelling competition was also held. From among the UG participants, Kanupriya Sharma was selected as Ms Fresher of HMV 2025 while Kriti Atwal and Sushila Kumari got the title of the first and second runners-up, respectively. From PG classes, Mandeep Kaur was chosen as Ms Farewell of HMV 2025, while Ekta and Jaspreet Kaur were given the title of the first and second runners-up, respectively.
