Amritsar: World Photography Day was celebrated all over the world. Students of the postgraduate Department of Mass Communication and Video Production of DAV College, Amritsar, celebrated World Photography Day. They invited expert photographer Sanjeev Syal to create awareness about the subject among students. He guided students about how to use their mobile cameras effectively. Principal Amardeep Gupta said, “We were fascinated with the idea of introducing our students to the various facets of mobile photography. It was in line with our values to enable them to explore new creative pursuits. We were impressed with Syal’s credentials and enthusiasm and are happy that he could mentor our students effectively. The students were told about different types of gadgets used by contemporary photographers. Winners were felicitated by the principal. Prof Sandeep Kumar Sharma, Prof Shiv Kumar, Prof Roohi Sharma and Amit Kumar were also present on the occasion.

Capacity Building Programme

Army Public School, Amritsar, successfully conducted a two-day capacity building programme, bringing together 60 science teachers from 26 high schools of the region. The sessions were led by prominent educators and subject matter experts from CBSE. Neetu Bhardwaj from Apeejay School (Jalandhar) and Sonia Mago, Principal of Swami Sant Dass Public School (Jalandhar), led the sessions, aiming to enhance the teaching skills and knowledge of science educators. The focus was specifically on competency centric assessment techniques, creating content with conceptual pedagogy, and developing critical thinking skills among students for achieving better results in board exams. Teachers participated in hands-on activities, interactive discussions, and group exercises designed to strengthen their competency in delivering effective science education. The workshop concluded with a feedback session, wherein participants expressed their satisfaction with the programme.

Free books distributed

Post Graduate Department of Physics and electronics, DAV College, distributed free books to students of BSc Non-Medical and BSc Computer Science. Principal Amardeep Gupta congratulated the Physics Department for the initiative. While recalling his own literary experience, Amardeep Gupta encouraged the students to develop a habit of reading. In his speech, he said: “There is a genuine desire for recognition and success in students, and knowledge is the only way to turn this wish into reality. Knowledge is available everywhere. We have to seek it.” Sameer Kalia, Head of Physics Department, said it is important for the students to gain knowledge and hone their skills.

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day

On the initiative of Indira Gandhi National University Centre of Arts, the Department of History of Guru Nanak Dev University organised a lecture on ‘The Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh Sandhu. Prof Sukhdev Singh Sohal and Prof Amandeep Bal were the guest speakers of the event. Manu Sharma, Head of Department of History, welcomed the guests. The first lecture was delivered by Sukhdev Singh Sohal on ‘Long Shadow of the Partition (1947): A Retrospective’, wherein he focuses on the British perspective and cinema, print and social media on Partition. Amandeep Bal, Jallianwala Bagh Chair, expressed her views on the trauma, abduction and rapes of women, the worst victims of violence. “Creative writers such as Amrita Pritam, Khushwant Singh, Bhisham Sahni and Saadat Hasan Manto wrote about the violence and sufferings of women,” she said. Two minutes silence were observed in the memory of Partition victims, followed by question/answer session. TNS
