Candlelight vigil to be held on August 14-15 at Attari border

Folklore Academy, Hind Pak Dosti Manch and SAFMA to conduct candlelight vigil at the Attari border for peace between the two neighbouring countries on the intervening night of August 14-15.
Addressing mediapersons at Virsa Vihar on Saturday, Ramesh Yadav, president of Folklore Research Academy (Amritsar), Satnam Singh Manak, General Secretary of Indo-Pak Friendship Forum, President of Progressive Writers Sangh Punjab Surjeet Judge, patron of the academy Parshotam and Jaswant Singh Randhawa jointly stated that a seminar will be conducted at Khalsa College Amritsar on August 14. Parshotam Singh welcomed the participants. Yadav informed about the outline of the seminar and cultural programme being conducted by the academy on August 14 and the activities of the academy.
Satnam Manak said they have been continuously working for peace between India and Pakistan since 1995. During Partition, one million people were killed and one-and-a-half million were displaced. He said it was a pity that governments had not raised any memorial for them.
Earlier, the people of the two countries were divided in the name of religion. Now, they want peace and tranquillity. He said that the Sangh parivar was trying to make the country a Hindu Rashtra. He added that politics was being played on the basis of religion. He said that they wanted trade to be resumed between India and Pakistan.
