Car collides head-on with auto-rickshaw on Amritsar-Tarn Taran Road; 4 killed, 6 injured

A road accident near Gurdwara Tahla Sahib on the Amritsar-Tarn Taran Road claimed four lives and left six severely injured on Thursday evening. The accident occurred when a speeding car collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw carrying nine passengers.

According to police and eyewitness reports, the car was travelling at high speed from the Tarn Taran side and reportedly lost control near the Gurdwara Tahla Sahib. It crashed into an oncoming auto-rickshaw heading towards Amritsar. The collision was so intense that the car dragged the auto nearly 10 feet off the road before coming to a halt.

Three of the auto’s passengers died on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Labh Singh, the auto driver; Baljinder Kaur of Davinder Nagar; and Harbhajan Singh of Bhullar village. Another passenger succumbed to injuries during treatment at the hospital.

Five other passengers from the auto and the car driver sustained critical injuries. All were rushed to a nearby private hospital, where they are currently under treatment. Doctors have reported their condition as critical.

Eyewitnesses stated that the car was not only speeding but also coming from the wrong side, which resulted in the fatal collision. On receiving information, a team from Chatiwind Police Station, led by SHO Harsimranjit Kaur, reached the site. The injured were transported to hospital and the deceased were shifted for post-mortem examination. Their bodies will be handed over to their families after necessary procedures.
