CCTV network to be expanded: SSP
Amritsar, August 5
SSP, Amritsar (Rural), Charanjit Singh on Monday said that the number of CCTV cameras installed in the rural belt would be increased in view of the vast enormity of the area that comes under the rural belt.
Apart from the state government’s project to install CCTV cameras in border villages to curb the movement of drug smugglers in order to retrieve the drugs smuggled from Pakistan, other parts of the rural belt would also be covered with CCTVs to nail criminal elements, said SSP Charanjit Singh.
“We have around 1977 CCTV cameras installed at various prominent places in the Amritsar rural belt including religious places and border villages. Considering the huge area that comes in the jurisdiction of Amritsar rural police including Attari Wagah joint check post, the number (of cameras) was still not encouraging. I will endeavor to enhance the number of cameras so that we could cover majority of areas,” SSP said.
He said CCTVs helped in evidence based policing. He said remaining prominent exit and entry points would be covered with the help of CCTV cameras and control room would be set up where all leads would be collected to respond in timely manner. — TNS
