A captivating Carnatic violin concert was presented by Lalgudi GJR Krishnan and Lalgudi Vijaylakshmi on the premises of Spring Dale School. The two eminent artistes are fifth-generation musicians and the most authentic guardians and torchbearers of the illustrious Lalgudi Bani. Disciples of the legendary maestro Lalgudi Jayaraman, they were accompanied by Guru Raghavendra on ‘mridangam’ and S Krishna on ‘ghatam’.

Spring Dale Educational Society chairman Sahiljit Singh Sandhu said the event was organised under the aegis of SPICMACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth). He said, “The students found an immediate connect with the melodies of the violin and cheered the artistes throughout the performance. These concerts are an effort to create awareness and knowledge about our heritage among students and nudge them to appreciate art.”

Principal Rajiv Kumar Sharma recalled that Spring Dale’s mentor, late Manveen Sandhu, had been an active associate of SPICMACAY and her vision led to the foundation of the state-of-the-art Performing Arts Department in the school. The department has been instrumental in inculcating a love for music and cultural forms of India in the students.
