Chain-snatching case cracked, accused held
A case under Sections 304(2) and 3(5) of the BNS was registered at the Civil Lines police station
The Civil Lines police have cracked a chain-snatching case reported last month. According to the police, on November 18, complainant Raksita, a resident of Anand Avenue, was out for an evening walk near her residence when two unidentified youths approached her on Makbool Road and snatched gold chain from her neck before fleeing from the spot. A case under Sections 304(2) and 3(5) of the BNS was registered at the Civil Lines police station in this connection, and the police began its investigation into the incident.
The police traced the accused, identified as Manpreet Singh, alias Happy, a resident of Fairland Colony, Fatehgarh Churian Road. He was brought on a production warrant on November 28. During interrogation of the accused, the police recovered the snatched gold chain and a scooter used in the crime on his disclosure. Based on information provided by Manpreet, the second accused, Sunny, alias Chitta, a resident of New Abadi, Karampura, Fatehgarh Churian Road, was named in the case. The police said his arrest was still pending.
Officials confirmed that Manpreet was a habitual offender with a long criminal record. He had multiple FIRs registered against him during the past one decade, they said. The police said efforts were on to arrest Sunny.
