Many of these infrastructure initiatives, announced years ago, remain incomplete. These include the Patti-Makhu railway line, which will reduce travel time between Amritsar and western states such as Maharashtra and Gujarat by six hours.

The establishment of a dry port on the Attari railway line is projected to improve cargo generating and boost industrial activity in the region. In the field of education and research, the establishment of Post Graduate Institute of Horticulture Research and Education, sanctioned in 2015, remains pending. An additional 30 acres of land is required for the construction of administrative, academic and residential facilities.

On the trade and economic front, there is a demand to revive international trade through the Attari border. The extension of tax rebates to Amritsar and Gurdaspur is seen as a key step to stimulate industrial growth and generate employment.
