Amritsar, January 23

Meena Devi, Child Development Project Officer, Amritsar Urban-2, led a team of DCPU and non-profit Muskan, to stop marriage of a 14- year-old girl by her parents in Mohkampura area of Amritsar. While informing about the incident, Meena Devi said that on Sunday she received information that a minor girl, Pinky, was being married at Mohkampura locality. The officer informed the supervisor of the concerned circle, Pooja, and the concerned police station officer and asked them to reach the spot.

“We gathered a team and reached the spot along with members of the non-governmental organisation Muskan and saw that the information received on the phone was absolutely correct. The girl was being married off by her family, while her age was still 14-15 years. We stopped the marriage and action was taken against the culprits.”

The minor girl has been sent to the State After Care Home, Amritsar.
