Hundreds of activists belonging to the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU), a worker’s body, organised a demonstration in front of the local District Administrative Complex (DAC) today and offered to be court arrested, emphasising on the demands of farmers and labour classes.
The workers asked the administration for hours together to court arrest them but the officials overlooked their call, who hours after the demonstration went back to their destination.
The workers, besides the different mass organisations such as ASHA, Anganwari, mid-day –meal workers and the women workers of the CPM, took part in the demonstration. Sukhdev Singh Gohalwar, Anoop Kaur Balehar, district president of the anganwari workers and other leaders of the organisations, while addressing on the occasion, condemned the union and the state government for their indifferent attitude towards the issues related to farming and the labour communities. The demonstrators expressed their solidarity with the agitating farmers in the country at the national level and condemned the Union Government for not making sincere efforts to resolve the present situation.
