City Museums closed till Aug 1

Amritsar: The museums being operated by the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the Golden Temple Plaza, here, will be closed for visitors from July 24 to August 1 for repair and maintenance work. Tourism officials said as per the decision of the department, the museums are closed during the last week of January and July every year for periodic repairs and maintenance work. The officials stated that museums would reopen on August 2. TNS

24 inmates held, sent back to jail

Amritsar: Twenty-four prisoners who were booked by the police for possessing prohibited materials, including mobiles, tobacco and narcotic substances, were arrested by Islamabad police here today. Perneet Dhillon, SHO, Islamabad police station, said the accused were sent back to jail after questioning. The sneaking of mobile phones and other prohibited material inside the high-security jail was rampant. The jail authorities had tightened the noose around the offenders and confiscated a huge quantity of cell phones from jail inmates. TNS

Four held with 62-gm heroin

Amritsar: The police have nabbed four persons in separate incidents and recovered 62 gm of heroin from their possession. Those arrested were identified as Sonu Kumar of Milap Avenue, who was held with 20 gm of heroin, Gursewak Singh of Bal Khurd village with 20-gm heroin, Tirath Singh of 12-gm heroin and Lala Ram of Gole Bagh with 10-gm heroin. Separate cases under the NDPS Act were registered against them. TNS

3 nabbed with illicit liquor

Amritsar: The city police have nabbed three persons for bootlegging and recovered 115 bottles of illicit liquor from them. Those arrested were identified as Amandeep Singh of Anand Vihar, Palwinder Singh of Chatiwind village and Gopi Singh of Hatim Tai street. The police seized 40 bottles from Amandeep and Palwinder Singh each while 35 bottles were seized from Gopi.
