The poll observers appointed by the State Election Commission for the Municipal Corporation and Nagar Panchayat/Municipal Council elections, Ghanshyam Thori and Hargunjit Kaur, reviewed the preparations during a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police here today. They directed the officials of the administration to ensure proper arrangements for the convenience of voters at the polling stations.
Both the observers got detailed information about the deployment of election staff, departure of polling parties and security arrangements. They said that the officials of the administration will be deployed in the field on the day of polling.
District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said that 811 booths have been set up in 85 wards of Amritsar Municipal Corporation. Of these, 300 booths are sensitive and 245 are highly sensitive. She said that preparations for elections in Ajnala, Rajasansi, Majitha, Baba Bakala Sahib and Rayya have also been completed. The DC said that elections are to be held in a total of 30 wards for the Majitha Municipal Council and four Nagar Panchayats. A total of 30 booths have been set up for this of which seven are sensitive.
Senior Superintendent of Police Charanjit Singh said that extensive security arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful elections. He said that additional police personnel have been deployed after verifying the sensitive polling booths. ADCP Harkomal Kaur, who was present in the meeting, said that adequate arrangements have been made by the police for the Municipal Corporation elections and vigil is being kept on the mischievous elements.
Polling booths changed
For the convenience of residents during the Municipal Corporation, Nagar Panchayat and Nagar Councils elections, the location of some polling booths has been changed by the Returning Officers so that the general public does not face problems in voting. District Election Officer Sakshi Sawhney said that polling booths 1, 2 and 3 of Ward No. 16 have been shifted to the new Gandhi Memorial High School at Jagdambe Colony, Majitha Road and polling booths number 7, 8, 9 and 10 of Ward No. 5 which were earlier at PBN High School, Dayanand Nagar, have been shifted to Police DAV Public School, Police Lines. Similarly, polling booth No. 3 of Ward No. 9 has been changed from Government Elementary School, Ganda Singh Wala, to Government High School, Ganda Singh Wala. Polling booth No. 3 and 4 of Ward No. 12 have been changed from Government Elementary School, Tungbala, to Government High School, Tungbala. Meanwhile, polling booth No. 6,7 and 8 of Ward No. 45 have been changed from Shakti Model School, Sharma Colony, to Gurukul Public School, Guru Nanak Colony, Gali No. 2. Polling booth No. 1, 2 and 3 of Ward No. 82 have been changed from Government Senior Secondary School, Ghanupur to Government High School, Kala. Polling booth No. 4 of Ward No. 82 has been changed from Spring Study School to Government Elementary School, Kala. Polling booth No. 6 of Ward No. 86 has been changed from Government Senior Secondary School, Ghanupur, to Spring Study School, Shershah Suri Road. In Ward No. 82, polling booth numbers 7 and 8 have been shifted from Government Senior Secondary School, Ghanupur, to Government Elementary School, Kala. Polling booth number 1 of ward number 56 has been shifted from Pujya Shri Sohan Lal Jain Senior Secondary School to SGRD Kids Keshal Public School Town Hall, and polling booth number 8 of ward number 58 has been shifted from Pujya Shri Sohan Lal Jain Senior Secondary School to SGRD Kids Keshal Public School, Town Hall.
