As the festival season is on, there has been rampant encroachments by vendors and shopkeepers making commuting on roads a messy affair.

After residents raises concern over the issue, the police along with the civic authorities came out of their slumber and launched anti- encroachment drive today.

They removed encroachments on Lawrence Road, railway link road, Court Road and Ashoka Chowk here today. The police said the drive would continue in the coming days too.

The police teams were led by Gurbinder Singh, ACP (Traffic), Ramdavinder Singh, in-charge Zone III, along with municipal corporation employees. They warned vendors not to encroach roads and footpaths again.

They asked them to keep their goods inside shops and not to display any items on roadsides. They also appealed to people to park their vehicles on designated parking spaces and follow traffic rules in letter and spirit.
