The 540-MW capacity Guru Amardas Thermal Power Limited (GATPL), Goindwal, was incorporated by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) on January 12 and on completion of the merger process on February 7, making it completely the property of the Punjab Government. The thermal plant has also been named as Sri Guru Amar Das Thermal Plant.

ETO said with this acquisition, the Rs 3,000 crore liability case filed by GVK Power (Goindwal Sahib) Limited will be over, thereby protecting the people of the state from any sudden surge in power outages. He said this would help in providing cheap electricity to the consumers of the state.
