College hosts yoga workshop

Amritsar: Khalsa College of Nursing and Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur College for Women conducted a yoga workshop for its students. Under the guidance of Kamaljit Kaur, a yoga expert, the yoga workshop based on different asanas saw students as well as faculty in attendance. During the session, the students were also informed about the health benefits of each asana. Utpadasana, trikonasana, nukasana, bhujangasana, makrasana etc. were performed. At the end, different breathing exercises (pranayams) were performed. After the yoga session, the students, realising the importance of yoga, took a vow to create a healthy society by adopting yoga practice.

Workshop by Biotech Dept

A two-day workshop on SDS–PAGE (sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis) hands-on training was organised by the Department of Biotechnology, DAV College. Shubham Sharks from Guru Nanak Dev University was the technical person. The workshop also received a grant under the Star Scheme College of DBT. The objective of the workshop was to make students learn SDS–PAGE and extract protein from rice and wheat bran and wheat flower. Students performed electrophoresis on these proteins. Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar said such workshops would help students learn various scientific techniques.

Meritorious student lauded

Raman Kumar, a student of Prabhakar Senior Secondary School, received accolades from his school principal after he secured the fourth position in the district and the eight position at state level by scoring 490 out of 500 marks in the Punjab School Education Board Class XII results. The school staff along with Principal Rajesh Prabhakar received Raman Kumar warmly and congratulated him for his achievement. He said it was worth mentioning that students of Prabhakar School had made it a tradition to bag a position among the top 10 for the last six years in a row at the state level. tns
