Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu, who switched over to the AAP from the Congress, was made the national spokesperson and joint secretary in the presence of Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia here on Thursday. A letter undersigned by Pankaj Kumar Gupta, national secretary of AAP, has been issued to Karmajit Singh Rintu.
He expressed his gratitude to AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for this responsibility.
“I am thankful to our leader Arvind Kejriwal for appointing me as the national joint secretary and national spokesperson of AAP. I will give my best to ensure that AAP’s ideology reaches out to every household through these responsibilities,” said Karamjit Singh Rintu.
Interacting with the media, Rintu claimed that the Congress does not respect good personalities. AAP respects good persons, while Congress needs only corrupt persons and they even respect them.
“The leaders in traditional parties have lost their credibility. We wear a white suit and conceive that people are thinking that we are clean, but actually, people call us ‘chor’ (thieves). AAP verified my documents before joining. I am clean. So, they allowed me to join their party,” Rintu said.
“I have no desire of any post or ticket in the party. I have only one goal — to serve the holy city. Yes, I am selfish, but for my Punjab and my city. AAP is the only party which provides space to a common man to run governance,” he said
Talking about the post of Mayor, Rintu said: “The councillors of Municipal Corporation General House will decide whether I should continue as Mayor or not.” Apart from Mayor Karmajit Singh Rintu, three MC councillors who were close aides of Rintu also joined the AAP on Thursday. Councillors Priyanka Sharma, Gurjit Kaur and Mandeep Aujla joined the party in the presence of Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.
