The Amritsar Commissionerate Police have cracked a blind murder case involving the disappearance and subsequent killing of Sonu Singh, who went missing from the Mohkampura area on the night of August 12, 2025. The investigation initially appeared complicated after a missing report regarding his wife, Amandeep Kaur, had also been lodged earlier at the Mohkampura police station by her father. However, technical investigation and detailed questioning eventually uncovered a deep-rooted conspiracy behind the crime.

The police said Amandeep Kaur, along with her lover Sunil Singh, alias Sheelu, Sunil’s mother Seeta, and Seeta’s husband Gurwinder Singh, alias Happy, had meticulously planned Sonu Singh’s murder.

On 12 August, Amandeep took her husband to the Batala bus stand, from where he was taken away in an e-rickshaw driven by Gurwinder. The accused transported him to Misharpura village in Batala. There, they intoxicated him with liquor, restrained him inside a room and executed the murder as per their plan. Gurwinder allegedly slit Sonu’s throat with a knife, while Sunil struck him on the left side of the head with an axe, resulting in his death. The body was then stuffed into a sack and dumped in a drain near Adda Panjgraian along with the knife. Meanwhile, Amandeep Kaur attempted to mislead the police by going to her parental home in Rasoolpur Kallar and filing a missing report about her husband.

Following the statement of Sonu’s brother, Parmjeet Singh, alias Pamma, a case was registered on November 14 under Sections 140(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Mohkampura police station. Within 24 hours, the police arrested two of the accused, Seeta and Amandeep Kaur. Based on their disclosures, Section 103 the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was added to the FIR the next day. On 16 November, the police also arrested Gurwinder Singh, alias Happy. The fourth accused, Sunil Singh, alias Sheelu, is still absconding and efforts are underway to arrest him.

The police identified the arrested accused as Amandeep Kaur, a 35-year-old housewife from Rasoolpur Kallar; Seeta, 45, of Angarh and currently residing in Misharpura and Gurwinder Singh, alias Happy, 35, a labourer from Misharpura village. All three have no previous criminal history. The deceased, Sonu Singh, was a resident of Rasoolpur Kallar in Amritsar.
