Cops deployed on GNDU campus as student organisations hold meet

Several members of student organisations from GNDU today called a gathering at the university’s Gurdwara Sahib to discuss student issues as the university authorities deployed police as a preventive measure.
A large number of police personnel were seen outside the gurdwara as students and research scholars’ unions passed 10 resolutions and formed a nine-member student action committee to take up several issues of students with the university authorities.
Among the prominent issues being pursued by the student unions are fee regulations, demanding the fee structure be made equivalent to that of Punjabi University; representatives of the Research Scholar Union re-elected democratically; student elections conducted in a transparent manner; a review committee constituted with students’ participation to review their issues like fine, late fee, short attendance. Besides, students of social science department should be allowed to attempt entrance and general exams in their mother language.
Representatives of the National Student Union of India, Student Organisation of India, Student Organisation Sath, United Sikh Student Federation, All India Student Federation, Students for Society, Chandar Shekhar Azad Student Organisation were present at the meeting.
The students will submit a memorandum of their demands to VC Prof Jaspal Sandhu tomorrow.
