The Health Department on Saturday asked private hospitals to set up isolation wards for suspected patients in view of the coronavirus threat. The health officials said an isolated ward had been set up at Guru Nanak Hospital.
Civil Surgeon Dr Prabhdeep Kaur Johal said hospitals had been asked to set up isolation wards to keep such patients. She said private hospitals had also been instructed to inform the Health Department if a suspected patient visits them for treatment.
On Friday, health officials held a meeting with airport officials in this regard.
Health officials said the airport staff should check the immigration history of passengers. If anyone visited China in the past 14 days, he or she should be examined. However, the city has no direct flight to any city of China. But, several connecting flights arrive from Singapore.
The authorities will also display advisories at the airport for passenger to report their illness at the time of arrival.
