The Amritsar counter intelligence (CI) have arrested three weapon smugglers and recovered six pistols, including one 9MM Glock, two .30 bore and three country-made .32 bore pistols, from their possession.
Gaurav Yadav, Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, in a statement issued here on Saturday said that those arrested were identified as Gurjant Singh, a resident of Sangatpura, Amritsar, and Gursharan Singh, alias Gursharandeep, and Abhishek, alias Abhi, both residents of Lakhuwal, Amritsar. The DGP said the trio were arrested a day after the Amritsar CI busted a Pak-backed illegal arms smuggling racket with the arrest of two operatives, who were further supplying weapons to associates of foreign-based gangsters Lakhbir Landa and Satta Naushera. He said five sophisticated pistols were recovered from their possession.
He said the CI got an intelligence input that several armed person were planning to commit some crime at Uggar Aulakh village located on the Amritsar-Ajnala road. Acting swiftly, a police team conducted a raid near Uggar Aulakh village on the Amritsar-Ajnala road and nabbed the accused, the DGP said.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that all the accused had criminal history and cases of different natures, including Arms Act, NDPS Act and Excise Act were registered against them. A fresh case under Sections 25 of the Arms Act and Sections 61(2) and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered against the accused, he said.
