The district council meeting of the Communist Party of India (CPI), Amritsar Rural unit, was held, under the leadership of Barjinder Singh Josan from Jandiala Guru, today at the party office on Batala Road.
District Secretary Lakhbir Singh Nizampur presented a report on the work done recently by the party and various public organisations. He gave detailed information about successful movements against land pooling, protests by the Khet Mazdoor Union, NREGA Union and AITUC.
The meeting also discussed preparations for the 25th Party Congress of the CPI, which will be held in Chandigarh from September 21 to 25. Members decided to make the event a success by carrying out planned activities and completing pending fundraising targets as soon as possible.
Another key point of discussion was the upcoming 'Jatha March', which will begin on August 21 from the Shaheed Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna Memorial. In the rural district, it will reach Chetanpura village, the birthplace of Sohan Singh Josh, a prominent revolutionary and founding figure of the communist movement in Punjab.
To ensure the success of the march, party workers from different blocks have been given specific responsibilities, said Nizampur. He said that the march will travel through various villages and towns to raise awareness among people and to speak out against anti-people policies of the Central and Punjab governments.
Several party leaders, including Balwinder Singh Dudhala, Gurdeep Singh Guruwali, Narinder Bal, Gurmukh Singh Shergill and Mangal Singh Khajala also addressed the meeting.
