Pak-linked cross-border weapons smuggling racket busted, 2 held

Acting on reliable intelligence inputs, the Commissionerate Police, Amritsar, has busted a Pakistan-backed cross-border weapons smuggling racket, leading to the arrest of two key operatives and the recovery of a cache of sophisticated arms.

During the operation, the police nabbed Balwinder Singh and Jugraj Singh, alias Jagga, and recovered seven high-end pistols, including three PX5 models and four .30-bore weapons. Officials said the seizure marks a significant breakthrough in curbing the flow of illegal firearms routed from across the border.

Police sources confirmed that Jugraj Singh is a habitual offender with a history of involvement in serious crimes. He is wanted in a major murder case registered at Police Station Lopoke in Amritsar Rural. Additionally, he was earlier booked in a commercial-quantity heroin case at Police Station Sarai Amanat Khan in Tarn Taran district.

Senior officers said the arrests have exposed yet another link in the chain of Pakistan-based handlers pushing weapons into Punjab through local conduits. They reiterated that the crackdown on such syndicates remains a top priority.
