Reaching out to the youth in the state, the Punjab Government has launched an online portal to tackle drug addiction. The website called, Darpan, was launched by Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria at an event in Amritsar on the Republic Day. Additional Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal on Wednesday briefed the officials about the network building done under Darpan.
Now, Amritsar has become the first district to have access to this online portal, where information regarding de-addiction, education and awareness programmes and general information regarding the de-addiction process will be available with just one click or a phone helpline.
“The website will provide every possible information on the de-addiction process. User information will be kept confidential and people or any organisation, who wants to join the campaign against drug-addiction will be able to register themselves for the DAPO and buddy programmes as well,” said Himanshu Aggarwal.
He said officials from Health, Education, police, Red Cross, non-governmental organisations had been roped in to assist through the website and senior officials would be accessible for any help and assistance through Darpan. “Any query or complaints received through the website will be fast-tracked to the officials concerned or heads of departments for immediate action and relief. The purpose of Darpan is to reach out to most people affected with drugs and provide an accessible channel for possible solution.”
Aggarwal said the district administration was also looking forward to working out ways to provide employment or skill training to recovering addicts, who register through the website.
