DAV College, Amritsar, students visit CIPET

Amritsar: The Institution’s Innovation Council, DAV College, Amritsar, organised an educational tour for young students at the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET), under the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, Government of India. Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar flagged off the tour. Daljinder Singh said the institute of national importance was established in 1968 under a United Nations Development Programme. Daljinder further said while training the students at this institute, they are given theoretical and practical knowledge through state-of-the-art laboratories. The curriculum covers various aspects of plastic technologies such as designing computer software, programming it in leather machines, learning injection moulding techniques to operating blow moulding machines, extrusion processes and machine maintenance. The programme also facilitates post-training placement through the Training and Placement Cell of CIPET for sustainable livelihood of youth. Apart from skill development, the programmes are also helping in imparting entrepreneurial skills to the trainees.

GNDU conducts BEd CET

As per a notification of the state government, Guru Nanak Dev University conducted BEd Common Entrance Test-2022 on July 31 at 42 centres in 12 districts. The test has been held for admission to various colleges affiliated to GNDU, Panjab University and Punjabi University. In all, 13,892 candidates were registered for appearing in the CET. Despite inclement weather, 12,982 candidates appeared in the test. Coordinator Prof (Dr) Amit Kauts appreciated the efforts of all admission committee members and staff deputed from the GNDU and DEO’s of the concerned headquarters. He said answer keys of all four sets of question booklets would be uploaded on the portal on Tuesday. The candidates can verify and raise concerns by August 3 and the result will be declared on August 8. The schedule of the counselling will be updated thereafter.

Semester VI results declared

Result of Semester VI of Bachelor of Computer Applications, LLB (three-year course), BSc (Information Technology) was declared by Guru Nanak Dev University. The result is available on university website www.gndu.ac.in, said Examinations Prof incharge Prof Palwinder Singh.

Seminar on Plants, water

The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage Amritsar Chapter in association with Harman Public High School, Sultanwind village organised a seminar on “Plants, water and heritage”. The main speakers were Dr Sukhdev Singh, Punjab State Convener, INTACH, Daljit Singh Kohli, Amrit Lal Mannan and Principal Ashwani Malhotra. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sukhdev Singh explained the significance of trees and plants in our cultural heritage. “Trees have a symbiotic relationship with humans in the evolutionary process,” he said. Plants and trees provide not only food and healthy environment but also wood for furniture, houses and fuel. Plants and trees were there when humans evolved and started settling and were grown and taken care of by humans for fruits and other resources. Principal Ashwani Malhotra suggested the need of awareness activities for students as they are the future stakeholders.

Ultrasound scanner at college

Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Principal Dr Harish Kumar Verma inaugurated a new colour doppler ultrasound machine at the Clinical Complex. Giving information about this machine installed in the Veterinary Clinical Complex, Dr Verma said it was an important diagnostic machine with the college which will prove helpful in diagnosing important diseases of small, domestic and exotic animals. He said the machine was user-friendly as it provides an in-depth focused colour image and related information of any animal related disease. The veterinary hospital is also equipped with a portable ultrasound machine and an ICU for small animals with advanced orthopaedic and soft operation theatres. Dr Verma said the veterinary hospital is providing 24-hour veterinary services for livestock and pet care to the adjoining areas and border villages.
