Day after 2 drug deaths, one more succumbs in Tarn Taran

A day after two brothers died of suspected drug overdose at Chabal in Tarn Taran, one more person died in the area on Monday.

The deaths drew ire of people on the social media with many questioning the government’s ambitious ‘Yudh Nashain Virudh’ campaign's effectiveness.

The Chabal police said the body of Nishan Singh, 24, a resident of Baghiari village, was recovered from the sports stadium in the morning.

Gurdev Singh, bother of the deceased, said Nishan was a carpenter and earning handsome income, but he was addicted to drugs, which was easily available in the area.

On learning about the incident, Paramjit Singh Pamma, a former sarpanch of Baghiari, and others reached the spot and caught hold of a person with a syringe and several needles. He was handed over to the police.

Tarn Taran Deepak Pareek said a case has been registered against those who supplied drugs to the deceased. After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the parents of the deceased.
