DC flags off awareness vans to check stubble burning

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney launched a special campaign against stubble burning by flagging off awareness vans from the District Administrative Complex earlier this week to spread the message in villages across the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Sawhney said that these vans will visit different villages in the district to educate farmers not to burn crop stubble after harvesting. She highlighted the harmful effects of stubble burning, including air pollution, soil damage, destruction of helpful insects and loss of essential nutrients in the soil. She further shared that farmers who have been responsibly managing stubble were already honoured by the district administration on Independence Day with a “Kisan Tarjeeh Card”. This will help farmers get benefits from various schemes.

The DC also announced that this year, the administration will again honour such farmers as “Hero Farmers”. These farmers will not only be recognised but also receive financial assistance for their efforts to protect the environment, she said.
