Dhaliwal announces govt college in border village

Former Cabinet Minister and MLA from Ajnala Assembly constituency, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, today announced a series of meetings with the sarpanches of various border villages to discuss and directly interact with them to get suggestions for resuming development works in block

Baldarwal and block Raipur Kalan.

Dhaliwal announced that in view of the floods and the urgent responsibilities being carried out by the administration for the people affected by the natural calamity, the process of rehabilitation will be carried out from November 1 with a series of development works being carried out in the constituency throughout the next year.

Setting the deadline for these multi-faceted development works as March 31, 2026, Dhaliwal said that the previous governments adopted the policy of neglecting the employment of farmers, labourers and small businessmen residing near the international border.

"The international border touches 10 towns and 1,838 villages of Punjab along the 553 km long border of Ajnala assembly constituency. Over the years, employment opportunities of the large Rai Sikh community living near the international border were less, no interest was shown in establishing any agriculture-based industries in the government and private sector to curb the migration of families, nor was any effort made to open a college for higher education or Polytechnic Industrial Training for vocational technical education," he said as he announced to open a government college for higher education in the village of Bikaur in this border area.

While the project was earlier announced as well, the financial and budgetary approvals are yet to happen. "The prepared case of the expenses to be incurred on the establishment of the college has been sent to the Finance Department of Punjab for approval. We also have made a proposal for the railway service, which is considered a lifeline for multi-faceted development and employment, to be laid from Amritsar to the border town of Balarwal via Ajnala to the historical town of Ramdas," the minister said.
